About Small Planet Airlines

Small Planet Airlines is one of the fastest growing independent leisure charter airlines in Europe with operations in Europe, MENA and Asia regions. The company started its operations in 2009 and since then has grown its fleet from 3 to 22 aircraft. As of 2016, the airline is an Airbus-only carrier. Small Planet Airlines is oriented towards their personnel growth. The airline provides opportunities for the crew to develop their professional skills and competences and pursue their career in aviation.

The fleet consists of 18 airbus A320 and 4 Airbus A321 aircraft.

The average age of the aircraft is 13 years.

Therefore Small Planet Airlines upgrades 11-14% of its First Officers to Captains every year.

Theoretical preparation

Knowledge of Mathematics, Physics, and English is of key importance. During the assessment, the school and exam grades of these disciplines are evaluated additionally. A special skill assessment can be organised by the academy for those having low or no grades from their secondary school

Personal competence and aptitude

All candidates must go through special tests and interviews developed by the selection commission of the BAA Training and Small Planet Airlines for social competence and aptitude assessment

Steps of the preselection process:

1. Contact us

Please fill out the form below in order to get your personal manager at BAA Training who will guide you through the whole preselection process.

2. Initial discussion on terms, conditions and answers to possible Qs

You will be reached by email or phone to discuss your needs and terms of application. At this stage, the personal manager will answer all of your questions.

3. Document screening and schedule of the assessment date

After you provide a scanned copy of your passport valid to travel abroad and educational documents you are ready to set the date of the assessment.

4. Personality assessment (Profile XT)

The test examines three key personality areas and evaluates individual fit for the position you are applying for in accordance with them.

5. Aptitude assessment (Compass)

Compass includes: hand-eye-foot coordination, eye-hand coordination, spatial orientation, multi-task management, mental calculations, short term memory, and tech-test.

6. English test

Your English knowledge is tested as all of your training will be conducted in the aviation language – English.

7. Structural Interview

A structural interview is conducted face to face and compared with the results from the previously mentioned tests.

8. Suitable candidate is presented to the airline

If a student‘s profile match with airline‘s requirements, he is presented to the airline for the final decision.

9. Candidate‘s final interview with the airline

The airline invites suitable candidates for the final interview. It involves group tasks and a personal interview.

Cadet Pilot Assessment Process

Course content


Theoretical part consists of 14 subjects (790 hours) to be completed in 6-8 months.

Flight training consists of 215 hours including Flight Navigation Procedure Trainer, single-engine, multi-engine aircraft, and a Full Flight Simulator.

  • 150 hours – single-engine aircraft
  • 13 hours – multi-engine aircraft
  • 37 hours – FNPT II (Flight Navigation Procedure Trainer)
  • 15 hours FFS (Full Flight Simulator)

*Flight training sessions lasts from April till October.

Not included:

  • Assessment procedure
  • Medical examination for EASA Class 1 Medical. More about the procedure. Please note, that it may be cheaper to have your medical examination in Lithuania as a fee for it is 309 € (just for you to compare the same procedure in UK would cost approximately 630 €.
  • Living expenses and accommodation (you can compare prices in Vilnius and your own city here.
  • CAA exams (a fee for one exam at Lithuanian CAA is 5,7 €. It means that if you manage to pass all of your ATPL exams at the first attempt, you will pay 79,8 € in total in comparison 80 € per one exam in the UK).
  • Issue of professional licence at Lithuanian CAA which is 144 € (while it costs 285 € in the UK).



There are several options for students to get a partial or full funding for flight training. It is either a bank loan or different funding institutions in various countries. Find out more.

The theoretical part of your training is conducted at the headquarters of the academy in Vilnius, Lithuania. Take a 360 tour.

Living in Vilnius can pose a unique experience for every student interested in discovering new culture and travelling around. You can find plenty of hangout spots there, such as wonderful historical places, cosy cafes, local markets, a variety of restaurants and nightclubs. Being in the heart of Europe it is pretty easy to travel around as you can easily reach even furthermost cities in a few hours, also, Vilnius has as easy access to nature within walking distance.

Therefore, „QS Best Student Cities 2018″ placed Vilnius among TOP 100 best cities in the world for international students. According to the ranking indicators, the capital of Lithuania has a fairly low cost of living compared to other European capitals.

The city of Vilnius perfectly combines high-quality studies with the unforgettable entertainment and comfortable living for a reasonable cost.

For the long term accommodation, we offer LOOP hotel. The newly built contemporary design hotel located next to the BAA Training premises is a guarantee of a comfortable stay 1 kilometer away from the International Vilnius Airport and 3 kilometers away from the city centre.

The hotel offers modern single and double rooms for BAA Training students who will have an accesses to fully furnished kitchen and the private lounge zone. The hotel offers all the amenities including the restaurant, self-service laundry & ironing room, a gym room and many more.

The practical training will be held at one of our aerodromes. You could find more information about the aerodromes here.

It is your choice to either stay in Vilnius and commute to the aerodrome every day or temporarily to move to the other city. BAA Training could also offer several partner hotels in convenient locations and at good prices there.
